The Ballad Of Sally Rose

Emmylou Harris

About “The Ballad Of Sally Rose”

A semi-autobiographical concept album about a female musician whose career begins under the wing of a male partner, just as Harris first worked with Gram Parsons. After his early death (similar to GP) in a car accident (unlike GP), she finds a voice and audience but never forgets him.

The album is notable both for its parallels to Harris’s own life, and for being the first album entirely written by Emmylou after ten years as a songwriters' champion and “discoverer of songs.” She would not undertake a similar writing effort for another fifteen years.
