About “The Algorithm”

The Algorithm is the 8th studio album by post-industrial/alternative rock band Filter.
Their first new release in seven years, the album’s production began back in 2018 as a follow-up to 1995’s Short Bus and would feature work with Richard Patrick and original member Brian Liesegang. The album was set to be called Rebus and feature similar sentiments and concepts as Short Bus, but with modern production techniques.
The album’s initial funding was done through the crowd-sourcing website PledgeMusic, which eventually fell into bankruptcy and forced Patrick and Liesegang to call off the collaboration, and forced Patrick to return to the drawing board on the album. This coincided with Patrick announcing a change in concept, and the title, to They’ve Got Us Right Where They Want Us, at Each Other’s Throats. Patrick hoped to include 3 songs co-produced with Liesegang, “Murica,” “Thoughts & Prayers,” and “(Command-Z) High as a Muv Fucka” on the album.
Two of the three songs released as non-album singles. “Thoughts & Prayers” released as a single in early 2020, and came alongside news of the album’s title being changed to Murica and it receiving a late 2020 release date. The title track released as a single in October 2020 alongside the album’s cover art. However, this late 2020 release date came and went.
In 2022, Patrick announced the album’s name had changed back to They’ve Got Us Right Where They Want Us, at Each Other’s Throats and it would now be releasing on Golden Robot Records.
In May 2023, Patrick announced with the release of the single “Face Down” that the album will now be called The Algorithm. On 14th July, the single for the track “Obliteration” was released on streaming platforms, being first shown 3 days earlier on 11th July via its YouTube video debuting.
Pre-orders for the album became available on the 14th, with the final release date on 25th August, 2023. The album will come on 3 physical variants, black vinyl, clear vinyl, and a CD. This is alongside streaming where available.
