$oul $old $eparately is Freddie Gibbs' fifth solo studio album. Its title is taken from “Education”, a track from his 2019 album Bandana with Madlib. On its closing line, he raps:

Drugs for the free, soul sold separately

Freddie Gibbs initially teased the album’s title under the abbreviation “$$$” in an April 2021 interview with MixMag. He later revealed its meaning to Complex in July of that same year.

$oul $old $eparately was pushed back multiple times, one of the reasons being Freddie starring in his first feature film, Down With the King. In September 2022, Freddie officially announced the release date.
