“Drift” is the fifth studio album by British multidisciplinary artist Gaika. Released in September 2023 under the Big Dada label, the album marks a departure from Gaika’s usual electronic sound, embracing a diverse sonic landscape that defies categorization.

Drawing inspiration from a variety of genres, including breakbeats, funk-soul, post-punk, and cinematic strings, “Drift” showcases Gaika’s innovative approach to music production. Departing from digital-first techniques, the majority of the album was recorded using analogue equipment, creating a raw and immersive listening experience.

Throughout the album, Gaika explores themes of liberation, searching anomie, and hope. Tracks like “Gunz” and “Sublime” blend guitar riffs, drum beats, and ethereal atmospherics, evoking a sense of cinematic grandeur. Collaborative efforts with guest vocalists such as Amber Joy and Azekel add depth and emotional resonance to tracks like “And There Goes the Challenger” and “Less Burners Bigger Hearts.”
