Generation X is Generation X’s first studio album. It was recorded in only one week, with bassist Tony James responsible for the majority of the lyrics while frontman Billy Idol composed the music.
Despite being produced by Martin Rushent by suggestion of Idol, guitarist Derwood Andrews has said that Rushent’s engineer Alan Winstanley was more responsible for the sound of the album.
On commercial release in the United Kingdom in March 1978, the album reached #29 in the Albums Chart.
