Future Shock

Herbie Hancock

About “Future Shock”

Hancock’s last disco/pop albums weren’t well received and disco as a genre had been on a decline for a few years now.
He decides to overhaul his sound completely and a mixture of Electro Funk, Jazz (e. g. Autodrive) and of course instrumental hip hop is the result.

This album was also a commercial success earning a Platinum certification from the RIAA.
Probably due to Rockit becoming a major hit in the UK (it peaked at no. 8 of UK Singles) and a popular dance club record in the US (no. 1 of US Billboard Hot Dance Club Songs) and the accompanied multiple award winning music video.

Even though it’s released under Hancock’s name only, all songs except “Future Shock” were written collaboratively by Michael Beinhorn, Herbie Hancock and Bill Laswell
