The Calling

Hilltop Hoods

About “The Calling”

Arguably their commercial breakthrough, The Calling is Hilltop Hoods‘ third studio album and features “The Nosebleed Section”, arguably their breakthrough single.

The album was released on September 22 2003 by Obese Records and re-released in 2009 by Golden Era Records.

The album has a unique sound that remarks where the trio stand, slowly emerging from the underground. The beats have an underground sound with a touch of pop with their usual keyboard and bass riffs with horn samples combined with cocky lyrics about how they’re on top, especially on the single “Dumb Enough”.

The album was certified gold in 2004, marking its 35,000 sales milestone, being the first Australian hip-hop album to reach the milestone. Two years later, it was certified platinum for 70,000 sales, being the first Aussie hip-hop album for that milestone too. In March 2012, following the release of their sixth album Drinking From The Sun, the album peaked at number 50 on the ARIA album charts, eight and a half years after its release.
