Kylie Minogue

About “Golden”

Golden is the fourteenth studio album by Australian singer Kylie Minogue, released on April 6, 2018 via BMG.

After releasing her thirteenth studio and debut Christmas album, Kylie Christmas and its Snow Queen re-issue, Minogue left her label of 16 years, Parlophone. In February 2017, she confirmed her signing to BMG, promising fans that her “heart and soul” would be put into the album.
A two-week writing trip in Nashville is said to have been a turning point in the recording process; Minogue claimed it had a “profound effect” on her. Lyrically, the album covers topics such as mortality and ageism in the music industry, her well-publicized split with actor Joshua Sasse and escapism via music.
The first taste of the album was the Jack Savoretti collaboration “Music’s Too Sad Without You”. Debuted via the film Halal Daddy, an official release was planned but scrapped for unknown reasons. Following the surfacing of the album’s title online, Minogue confirmed it via Twitter:

The album’s lead single, “Dancing”, was initally scheduled to be released on February 16, but an online leak saw it moved forward a month to January 19. Kylie announced the album’s tracklist on her Instagram account on January 16. “Stop Me from Falling” followed as the second single on March 9, with a remix featuring Gente de Zona in April.
Critics were mostly positive in their response to the album: Tim Sendra of AllMusic called Kylie’s new sound “pretty darn bold”, while Laura Snapes of The Guardian noted the album’s “intensely personal lyrics”. The public also reacted favourably to the album; with over 48,000 copies sold in the UK alone in its first week of being on sale, Golden became Kylie’s 6th number one album in the UK, with it also being certified Silver just two weeks after release.
