HEY WHAT is the thirteenth album by Minnesota indie rock band Low, and their first one since the departure of bassist and keyboardist Steve Garrington, as the band is now comprised solely of core members Alan Sparhawk and Mimi Parker.
This album is also Low’s third record in a row to be produced by BJ Burton, following Ones and Sixes (2015) and Double Negative (2018), and it continues the pursuit of new musical patterns and lyrical themes that started on those two albums. As a result, HEY WHAT dives heavily into industrial noise, with lyrics that are more despondent and spiritually resigned in comparison to previous works from the band.
The record, much like its predecessor Double Negative, has received universal acclaim.
