About “Re: This Is Why”

Re: This Is Why is a reworked version of Paramore’s album, This Is Why, containing remixes and rewritten versions of original songs, by invited artists. The band explained the album’s concept on their social media accounts, on October 2nd:

We’ve long wanted to recognize the connection we have with some of the artists who’ve influenced us as a band and/or who have cited our band as an influence. Re: This Is Why is almost a remix album. Some of the songs have been remixed sort of classically, while others were reworked or rewritten. It’s incredible to hear all our worlds colliding. Out 10/6.

Re: This Is Why also features ‘a new b-side’, as stated by the band on Instagram – a reworked version of a discarded song from After Laughter, Paramore’s fifth album, as confirmed by Hayley in an interview for the Smallzy’s Sugery podcast:

We’ve been putting this project for almost a year now. We just wanted to round up any friends who wanted or could be a part of this album. What came out of it is so incredible. There’s an unreleased song which didn’t make it on this album or After Laughter either. It’s been hanging around for a long time and we wanted to finally give it a home.

Paramore started teasing a new release on September 25th, just like they did before the release of This Is Why, by posting a note that said:

Re: This Is Why
9.28 – This Is Why
10.2 – Why Is This?
10.6 – Is This Why?

The first two clips of the new remixes were teased by the band on their Discord server, on September 26. Other clips were posted on September 27, 28, 29, 30 and October 1st, two at a time, all titled with a character of the phrase “RE – THIS IS WHY”, until the album’s announcement, on October 2nd.

  • What have the artists said about the album cover?

The original cover for This Is Why was a take on a Marlene Dumas painting. It didn’t get clearance the first time around so we went with a different image. grateful to her for allowing us to use this, now.
