Released in 1989, “The Devil Made Me Do It” marks the debut of West coast rapper Paris, with topics touching on Black nationalism, police brutality, racism, and Black-on-Black crime; topics that Paris still addresses to this day.
Influenced by the Nation of Islam and the Black Panther Party, the album would establish Paris as a political firebrand in the West coast scene.
The music video for the single “The Devil Made Me Do It” was banned by MTV.
Some songs on the album were later re-recorded and re-released in 2003.
