The Getaway

Red Hot Chili Peppers

About “The Getaway”

The Getaway marks the Red Hot Chili Peppers‘ 11th studio album and first since 2011’s I’m With You, with a release date of June 17th 2016. Danger Mouse produced the record, with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich responsible for mixing.

The Getaway is also the second studio album with guitarist Josh Klinghoffer who was to then leave the band in late 2019

Anthony Kiedis spoke with Rolling Stone in October 2015, prior to the RHCP’s annual Silverlake Benefit show, and detailed the band’s creative progress:

The torture about doing this,is that we’ve been writing new music for the last year, and we’ve written some songs that I feel are as good as any songs we’ve ever written.

Danger Mouse is very good about coming up with super-modern ideas, but he’ll also touch on the acoustic guitar in the control room and strip the song down to its acoustic essentials. Which is a beautiful place to be.

In a video interview, Kiedis explained that the album was given a short succinct title inspired by the 1972 Steve McQueen film, The Getaway.
