The Art of Storytelling is Slick Rick’s fourth studio album. It was released on May 25, 1999 on Def Jam Recordings and it was the first album that Slick Rick made after his release from prison in 1996.

This is Slick Rick’s highest charting album, peaking at number 8 on the Billboard 200 and number 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums, it became certified gold within a month of it’s release.

The singles in The Art of Storytelling include: “Unify”, released in 1998; “Street Talkin'”, “We Turn It On”, “Frozen” and “Kill Niggaz”, all released in 1999. There are 3 bonus tracks: “We Turn It On”, “La Di Da Di” and “The Show”.
