The nineteenth studio album by Sparks, Lil' Beethoven (2002) was a departure from the electropop sound the Mael brothers had pioneered since the late 1970s, relying almost exclusively on choral and orchestral arrangements to hypnotic effect. The album was critically acclaimed and helped to launch a renewal of interest in the duo’s work which continues to this day.
