Sorry Ma, Forgot to Take Out the Trash

Recorded in the fall of 1980, Sorry Ma was not released until late August 1981 because the Replacements' label, Minneapolis-based Twin/Tone, could not afford to release it earlier.

The album was recorded at a home studio called Blackberry Way, and because the band, label, and manager (Pete Jesperson) carried so little clout, they had to record whenever they could grab time. As such, recording took about six months.

In 2008, Rhino Records released a remastered deluxe edition of the album, with 13 extra tracks:
- four from the first “live” demo recorded before the band signed with Twin/Tone (different versions of “Raised in the City” and “Shutup” as well as the never before released “Don’t Turn Me Down” and “Shape Up”);
- three from their studio demo recorded in July 21st 1980, their first ever “proper” recording session (“You Ain’t Gotta Dance”,
“Get on the Stick” and “Oh Baby”);
- four outtakes from the Sorry Ma… sessions (“Like You”, “Get Lost”, “A Toe Needs a Shoe” and an alternate Take of “Customer”);
- an improvised piece from the same sessions (“Basement Jam”); and
- the b-side of their first single (“If Only You Were Lonely”).
