The soundtrack to the 1992 Disney blockbuster Aladdin contains a musical score by Alan Menken, along with the last songs Menken wrote with lyricist Howard Ashman, who died in 1991, and whole new compositions in collaboration with Tim Rice.
The soundtrack went 3xPlatinum, winning Menken the Academy Award, Grammy, and Golden Globe for Best Original Score
The song “A Whole New World” would win Menken and Rice the Academy Award for Best Song, Golden Globe, it became the first, and so far only, Disney song to be #1 the US Billboard Hot 100, and the Grammys fo Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal, Best Song written for a Movie or TV and Song of the Year.
