Destination Eurovision 2018

Destination Eurovision was the French national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest 2018, organised by the channel France 2. This was the first time the French entry was selected through a final since 2014, and was a much more ambitious process.

The French broadcaster called for song submissions starting from 21 June 2017. 18 entries were selected from over 1,500 songs to compete in the televised shows. The selection process took place on January 2018 and consisted of three shows: two semifinals with 9 songs each, with 4 of them advancing from each semi to the final. Results in the semifinals were decided by an international jury panel and a French jury panel, composed of three members each. In the final, results were determined by a wider international jury and public televote.

The duo Madame Monsieur won the final on 27 January with “Mercy”. They placed third with the international jury but won the televote with enough points to become the overall winners.

“Mercy” will represent France at Eurovision 2018 in Lisbon. As a member of the “Big 5”, France is a direct qualifier for the Grand Final.
