About “Dope: Music from the Motion Picture”

This is the soundtrack album from Rick Famuyiwa’s 2015 farce about a teenager (Shameik Moore) from Inglewood, Calif. who spends a frantic day trying to get into Harvard University while avoiding being killed by drug dealers.

The film is set in Inglewood’s African-American community, so the album is heavy on rap. However, the teen protagonist fronts his own punk-rock band called Awreeoh with his friends who are also social outcasts. The album contains several tracks by the fictitious band.
