About “Hazbin Hotel Original Soundtrack (Part 1)”

This part of the soundtrack for Vivziepop’s animated series Hazbin Hotel consists of six of the first eight songs from the show’s first season. It covers songs ranging from the first episode (“Overture”) to the fourth episode (“Masquerade”).

These four episodes see the main protagonist Charlie Morningstar (voiced by Erika Henningsen) setting to make her demon rehabilitation project, the Hazbin Hotel (formerly the Happy Hotel), a success despite backlash she received during the show’s pilot episode for the idea. Even after receiving similar backlash in a meeting with Heaven’s angels, including their leader Adam (Alex Brightman), she does not stop pursuing her goals. She’s able to recruit movie star Angel Dust (Blake Roman) and Sir Pentious (Alex Brightman) into potential rehabilitation. These two, as well as other characters, including Vaggie (Stephanie Beatriz), Husk (Keith David), and Carmilla Carmine (Daphne Rubin-Vega), question their past motives in these songs.

Prior to these episodes and the soundtrack being released, the cast published two pre-release singles that didn’t make it into the soundtrack at first. The first, “Happy Day in Hell,” came out on October 20, 2023. The second, “Poison,” was released on January 5, 2024. The singles later appeared on the show’s full soundtrack.

Besides the Hazbin Hotel cast working with Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg for the first time, these two musicans had previously worked together on another animated project from Vivziepop, Helluva Boss, which takes place in the same timeline and universe as Hazbin Hotel. They made two songs for Helluva Boss’s seventh episode from the second season, “Mammon’s Magnificent Musical Mid-Season Special,” titled “Klown Bitch” and “2 Minutes Notice.” These songs later appeared on Haft’s compilation album about the series, Helluva Songs: Demos For Songs I Wrote For Helluva Boss.

“Hazbin Hotel Original Soundtrack (Part 1)” Q&A

  • Translations

  • What has Blake Roman said about collaborating with Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg for the soundtrack?

Sam Haft and Andrew Underberg, like, like, they’re just brilliant. They’re brilliant at what they do, and in not only in the music they create, but also the environment that they facilitate when we’re in the studio together. I mean, I felt every step of the way. Like, I could just be myself and I could bring myself to the material in the way, you know, that is intrinsic to me, and intrinsic to my interpretation of Angel [Dust]’s character, and I felt open. I felt good to be in [the] process and good to make mistakes and [felt] very comfortable.
