Laurel Canyon (Original Soundtrack)

This is the soundtrack album for Lisa Cholodenko’s 2003 drama about a hard-living record producer named Jane (Frances McDormand) in the Laurel Canyon neighborhood and her estranged son (Christian Bale), who returns home for a while. Two songs on the soundtrack are covers of Sparklehorse songs sung by the rock star (Alessandro Nivola) who is also Jane’s boyfriend. Sparklehorse also appears on the soundtrack in its own guise. The rest of the album is filled out with rock music appropriate to the Southern California setting.
