About “Let Me Shine for You”

Tri Angle Records Presents: Let Me Shine For You is a tribute mixtape containing experimental covers and reinterpretations of Lindsay Lohan’s songs. Tri Angle is a label founded by 20 Jazz Funk Greats writer Robin Carolan that specialized in witch house. This was the indie label’s first release:

Inspired in part by Lindsay Lohan’s grotesquely fascinating black hole existence and in part by my unwavering belief in the power of pop music as an artform, I saw an opportunity to create something interesting with her music, and decided to ask some friends to reinterpret some of Lindsay’s songs. “Tri Angle Records Presents: Let Me Shine for You” is the result. Even though we are all fond of Lindsay in our own ways, there is no FREE LINDSAY agenda here. We all love pop music and this is merely an experiment. All of our intentions are very sincere.

In a 2013 interview with the New Yorker, Carolan explained the project was a tribute to Lohan and to the scrutiny that female celebrities face: “I kind of thought if you could actually be inside Lindsay Lohan’s head, that’s probably a really terrifying space to be in. So I thought maybe I could get some guys to remake her songs as if they’re actually in her head.” In another interview with Dazed, he stated: “That was a risky way to introduce the label back in 2010, but now it’s almost trendy for indie and underground musicians to cite pop-culture references.”

As a label launch, the project was considered an “unquestionable success” with Carolan later estimating it had been downloaded from MediaFire around 80,000 times within a month of its first posting.
