The original soundtrack from Valley Girl was planned to be released by Epic Records in 1983. It was never released commercially due to problems clearing the rights to some of the songs, which had to be removed or over-dubbed in the film’s final cut. A few copies of the original album were leaked and became highly valued collectors' items while a counterfeit album briefly appeared. It can be distinguished by the misspelled title “Valley Girls” printed on the album cover’s spine.
When the official soundtrack was released in 1983 it contained just six songs on vinyl and twelve on cassette.
To satisfy the demand for the complete soundtrack that never was, the album featured on this page was released in Japan in 2014. It captures all the songs that were originally intended to be in the film, including those that had to be cut or over-dubbed.
