Maybe he’ll get there fast, and then he’ll take it slow.

Born in 1966, Masta Ace was 4 – 14 y/o during the 1970’s. He’s been influenced by a variety of 70’s soul and R&B artist, which is evident in his music.

Masta Ace has rhymed over quite a few beats with samples from this era, for example H.O.O.D uses a sample from Freda Paynes Stares & Whispers.

More drug slang. Pie is slang for a kilo(gram) of coke, which is roughly 2.2 lbs, or 1000 grams.

Q uses some wordplay here. He offers some druggies a slice of pie – which traditionally would be a slice of a crust covered delicacy, but in this case he’s selling them some of the cocaine.

“Selling Pies who need a slice” is also referring to an 1/8 of pie as they are usually cut in 8 slices. An ounce of weed or whatever drug you have is usually broken down into eighths to sell to everyday customers.
