El-P himself has said this was a reference to God, but this “tougher colder killer” could also be used as a metaphor for America. Either way, it is a greater evil force who can bring everyone, El-P and the dying son included, to their knees at will.

It could also be death itself. The soldier, about to be killed, is laughing at El-P and telling him “You think you’re tough? Watch out because death is coming for us all. And on the day you die you’ll learn humility.”
