It was kind of normal growing up where I’m from in Harlem to have a family member or really close family friend that was on drugs. But being a young man and seeing it, experiencing him coming in the house and my bike be gone, or my chain come up missing, I knew he was probably just trying to make money to buy drugs.

We have a great relationship. We never fell out. I never really hated him or anything like that. That’s who he is. I’d rather have an uncle and know how he is than not know how he is. I love him for all his ways, and now that I’m older, I understand it more. A lot of it probably was the drug abuse. He’s clean now and we get along great.

He was always beefin'—coming in our house with war wounds, bleeding. And to my grandmother he was such a sweetheart, he couldn’t do no wrong in her eyes. That’s why I say, don’t believe him. He had a rebel-without-a-cause attitude. Like, fuck life.

It was a Pacific bike, all silver with blue words on it. My pops was giving me money to go to sleep-away camp. I actually saved all of my money to come back and get the bike. I had it for a while, it was one of my favorite bikes. My second bike. I let my uncle hold it and he just never came back with it. Part of me knew I might not see that bike again. But it’s like, how do you say no to your uncle?

People who don’t wipe their tears from their face—they want you to know they’re crying. I noticed that my uncle never really reached for tissue every time he was crying. So he wanted some type of affection, love or care or something like that. He wanted that attention.

Fergsomnia is me these last few days—I ain’t slept in a week. I can’t sleep ‘cause Fergsomnia: I’m up and out, about to drop brand-new Adidas, working on Marty’s project. I was in the studio with Migos and Marty 'til the morning. So I can’t sleep—that’s why I got glasses on.

That’s the sorry. It’s a cruddy kind of sorry—it’s bullshit. Excuses, excuses, excuses.

Cruddy excuses like, “I’m preaching and getting these dudes to shine, talking about these things to let my niggas know they could do it. But do I want them to do the same things that I’m doing or do I want them to be better than me?”

It’s all real.

Being in this industry, it’s hard being in a relationship. I’m not the type of artist that lies in my music, so if you with me then you really know where I’m at, what I’m doing, who I’m fucking, ‘cause it’s hard for me to lie.

Being young, being rich, you got the world in the palm of your hands. And you have a female that you love and care about and she has to deal with the world. If you with me you have to deal with the world because you got the world coming at your man.

That wasn’t my girl. It’s a close friend of mine. We was all hanging out and my dude was looking at me like, “How you gon’ have my girl do this shit. You know damn well I had to talk my way out of this situation last night.“ LOL.

This song was really for Chris Brown. It was when he was with Karreuche.

I know it was hard for him. He kept leaving the studio to talk on the phone with her. He was apologizing for something. He was like, “Yo Ferg, what are we writing about?” There were mad dudes in the room. And I was like “Love!” That’s how we came up on the hook.

A little bit of inspiration came from myself, because I did a song—an apology to my girl—and that song is rough listening to it. It’s so real that I had to put out “I Love You” to celebrate, take these grey clouds away real quick.
