No matter how it’s viewed, the feeling is that everything in which you are involved goes wrong.

Written by 7-time Grammy Nominee LAW, this hook perfectly sums up this song: I understand that life is hard, probably more so for you. And it does seem that every day it’s pouring rain (metaphorically). But that does not mean your life is worthless or that it shouldn’t be experienced. (There are people who can help!)

As signified by the quotes, in this line I am speaking on behalf of the suicidal person, trying to make others understand how bad it feels.

I don’t blame my friends who have taken their own life, because I know the pain felt too great to bear.

What keeps me from taking my own life? Knowing that my sister’s needs me and would be destroyed if I took my own life; and knowing that my mother (RIP; see below) would never want me to succumb.

Nobody asks to be born. We end up here and are expected to flourish, and be appreciative. Some of us, born into poverty, for example, or born different in some way, may find life here anything but worth celebrating. The responsibility should not lie entirely with the subject, as he/she did not choose this existence. However, and this is critical, being at the mercy of God or chance is not an excuse that allows for the subject to act in a way that harms others. So, while I relate to and empathize with the suicidal individual, I want him/her to know that there are better answers than taking one’s own life.

In Japan, suicide has long been seen as an honorable way to die. It is called Seppuku.

This theme comes up often in my music. As Thomas Kuhn writes, things that may be considered fact today may not be down the road, and things that are true for one culture may not be for another. For example, before Columbus, the earth WAS flat – this was considered FACT. And, of course, a practice that is commonplace in one culture may be completely taboo in another. An example of this: suicide in Japan (see following line).

Most people that I’ve come across argue that suicide can only be seen in one way: as a cop-out. But I disagree, having experienced the intense pain of someone who considers taking his/her own life.
