Rapper Tim Dog released the N.W.A/Compton, CA diss track “Fuck Compton” in 1991. Eminem’s mentor Dr.Dre was a member of N.W.A at the time, and was dissed in the song. Em’s getting a little payback by namedropping the forgotten MC.

Tim Dog diss track was sparked by the incident involving Dr. Dre and Dee Barnes.

In reference to his previous line, he’s saying he has touched on (spoken on) everything to do so except children (pun intended).

The previous lines may have sounded like a stab at Michael, because Michael Jackson was accused of child molestation. In fact, Eminem avoided getting sued because of the ‘that’s not a stab at Michael’ line. {citation needed}

“Michael” could also allude to the psychotic serial killer from Halloween, Michael Myers. Relate the meanings of “stab at” and “psycho” to catch the wordplay.

Furthermore, there is a wordplay on “but” and “butt”, another reference to child molestation.

Eminem is very well known for his freestyle abilities and by saying that he doesn’t need to “look at no paper” means that he doesn’t need to write his rhymes, he can just freestyle an awesome diss. Whereas for Benzino it would take him many takes to make a song.

This can also be taken to mean that even though The Source keeps giving Eminem bad reviews, he keeps rapping. So he doesn’t need to see The Source’s magazines or… PAPERS.

There is nothing too difficult or costly that Eminem wouldn’t do for his daughter, Hailie Jade. These emotions could possibly be influenced by the cocaine he is heard inhaling during the intro. A regular side effect of cocaine is “feelings of invincibility”.

Em is also clearly referencing 9-11 in this lyric, notice the specific use of words that relate to that event?

no tower too high

no plane that I can’t learn how to fly

Eminem humorously implies with this lyric that he was the one behind 9/11. He “learned how to fly” that plane and there was “no tower too high” for him to fly it into. Not even the twin towers. Pretty ballsy move considering the closeness of this album’s release to the actual tower attacks but it’s so cleverly disguised many likely missed it at the time. This trope of placing himself as the man behind famous tragedies ran through all his early work. He raps about being the one behind Nicole Simpson’s murder and how he “smeared blood on the White Bronco” on The Slim Shady LP and raps about being the Columbine shooter on the MMLP. But his reference to 9/11 is noticeably less direct and more nuanced, a reflection of his growing artistic maturity and improvement as a lyricist up to this point in his career

Pac gave BIG his first shows and really help put him on, and after the 94' quad studios shooting, he saw it as an act of betrayal that they didn’t help him get to the bottom of what happened. And the “you and I know what’s going on” line before this one touches upon that even further.

Also, the line in terms of the line “Witness me strapped with Macs, knew I wouldn’t play that,” Pac says in an interview, regarding his robbery, that everyone knew he carries guns on him and that he would pull out if someone came at him or his crew, that’s why the guys that robbed him went at him first.

An album is certified Diamond in the US when it sells 10 million copies.

Eminem asserts that he doesn’t need jewellery (which are typically encrusted with diamonds) as when this song was released his previous solo project, The Marshall Mathers LP (2000), was not only almost diamond but also the fastest selling of all time, a title it still holds.

As of 2009 the album was officially certified diamond, with his preceding solo project, The Eminem Show (2002) also being certified diamond in 2010.

He called back to this on his “Shady Cxvpher” verse, spitting:

Ain’t really been into diamonds since I put my first record out
But I could put a chain around my second album
And wear it as a neck medallion

‘'I Get Money’‘ is the third single from the album and was released on June 30, 2007. The song peaked at #20 on the Billboard Hot 100 and was later certified gold by the RIAA. Rolling Stones ranked the song #14 on their best songs of 2007 list. The music video for the song was released on July 13, 2007.

This track demonstrates 50’s dominance over the rap game and establishes him as one of rap’s wealthiest forces. This is a classic swaggerfest attitude. Later, a “Forbes remix” was made, with additions from Jay Z and Diddy.

Again almost as metaphorical as the previous line:
“It’s Spring..” spring is always referred to as a fresh start. Eminem is known for being meticulous about word placement.

Notice how the swing appears in every verse, but each time the scenario portrays increasing serenity:

  • In the first verse, Eminem doesn’t even have time for it.
  • In the second verse, he’s pushing Hailie on it but she’s expressing her unhappiness about Em’s absence in her life.
  • In this final verse, the swing is the final painting of a happy family.

These changes through the song show Eminem gradually tearing away from the stage life and being there for his family instead.

This tragic image causes Em to wake up from his dream/nightmare and be with his daughter.

The plane crashing symbolizes the road/journey Eminem was on. So he is saying that his life was going down hill and would crash and burn if he did/does not change.

Since it’s the plane he was “supposed to be on”, this line further emphasizes his inevitable death, as it portrays how he would’ve died regardless of shooting himself.
