The video for this song was one of the first brickfilms to get mainstream attention. It topped Pitchfork’s best videos of the decade list.
I always figured it was written from the point of view of a bi (or possibly lesbian) girl but I might be wrong here. For me it would explain why the protagonist specifically says they fell in love with a girl and why “Bobby says it’s fine, he don’t consider it cheating, now.” Guys somehow don’t always seem to have a problem with girls kissing other girls while they do have a problem with them kissing other guys. The girl is ‘in love with the world’ so she would probably want to try everything she can in her short time on Earth and therefore she’d wanna try out if kissing other girls is something for her. Jack White writes characters all the time. I don’t think there’s a reason to assume it’s written from a male pov
