When you walk without ease
On these
Streets where you were raised
I had a really bad dream
It lasted 20 years, 7 months, and 27 days
I never, I'm alone, and I
Never, ever oh ... had no one ever
Never Had No One Ever by The Smiths

On The Queen Is Dead, Never Had No One Ever, there’s a line that goes When you walk without ease/on these/the very streets where you were raised/I had a really bad dream/it lasted 20 years, seven months and 27 days/Never had no one ever. It was the frustration that I felt at the age of 20 when I still didn’t feel easy walking around the streets on which I’d been born, where all my family had lived — they’re originally from Ireland but had been here since the Fifties. It was a constant confusion to me why I never really felt This is my patch. This is my home. I know these people. I can do what I like, because this is mine.‘ It never was. I could never walk easily."

-Morrissey, Melody Maker, September 27, 1986

Threatened by shadows at night
And exposed in the light
Shine on you crazy diamond!
Shine On You Crazy Diamond 1-5 by Pink Floyd

Threatened by shadows at night would be the darker machinations going on in Syds head, the darkness shielded him and the exposure of the light would be the public eye that overwhelmed him at times. Exposure of himself beneath the rockstar veneer.

Maybe because he made up so much of it at the last minute. Yeezus Review by Lou Reed

Def Jam founder and producer/hip-hop pioneer Rick Rubin spoke to the Wall Street Journal via email about his last-minute involvement in Kanye West’s Yeezus. He revealed that the record was a work-in-progress until the last minute.

Just two days before Yeezus was supposed to be turned in, five songs still needed vocals. “Don’t worry, I will score 40 points for you in the fourth quarter,” Kanye allegedly told Rubin. “In the two hours before he had to run to catch the plane [to Milan], he did exactly that: finished all lyrics and performed them with gusto,” Rubin said.

Justin Vernon Yeezus Review by Lou Reed

Bon Iver’s Justin Vernon collaborated with Kanye on two of the latter’s previous projects, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy and Watch The Throne. On getting asked to help out with Yeezus, Vernon told Pigeons and Planes:

After Twisted Fantasy, I kind of assumed that I’d get the call again at some point. I get along with Kanye really well and I think his musical decisions are exquisite. He feels otherworldly—he talks about being a god and shit, and his confidence in himself is inspiring. But at the end of the day, he’s a musician working in the lab. We have fun. So when the call came for this album, I was like, ‘Shit yeah!'

Metal Machine Music Yeezus Review by Lou Reed

As a radical departure from the rest of Reed’s catalog, Metal Machine Music is generally considered to be either a joke, a grudging fulfillment of a contractual obligation, or an early example of noise music.

The album features no songs or even recognizably structured compositions, eschewing melody and rhythm for an hour of over-modulated feedback and guitar effects, intricately mixed at varying speeds by Reed himself. In the album’s liner notes he claimed to have invented heavy metal and asserted that Metal Machine Music was the ultimate conclusion of that genre.

The album cost Reed credibility in the music industry while simultaneously opening the door for his later, more experimental material. Historically, Metal Machine Music is now considered a seminal forerunner of industrial music, noise rock, and contemporary sound art.

Like a small bird pretty while it's crapping on the new day Bagboy by Pixies

A “bird” is a nickname for a woman. This girl is pretty, but she’s ruining Francis’s new day like a bird pooping on an unsuspecting victim…

Like when I hear the sound of feet slapping on the runway Bagboy by Pixies

The girl Black Francis is referring to is fairly callous and clumsy. Unlike the dainty models walking gracefully down the runway, this girl’s feet slap the floor as she walks.
