Kiss is an American rock band formed in New York City in January 1973. Well known for its members' black and white face paint and flamboyant stage outfits, the group rose to prominence in the mid to late 1970s with their elaborate live performances, which featured fire breathing, blood spitting, smoking guitars, shooting rockets, levitating drum kits and pyrotechnics.

Surfboard wax is used to help you stick to your board while surfing. The hard shell of a surfboard is slippery, which is good for the side in the water, but not good for under your feet. A good wax job creates bumps which give your feet something to grip to.

“The Tourist” is the final track on OK Computer, punctuating the album with soaring guitar solos and ethereal vocals. The track is about enjoying life; when a tourist visits a place, he usually feels like he has to do a lot to take in the sights, making him move at a fast-pace, hence Thom telling him to “slow down.”

According to Q Magazine:

This was written by Jonny Greenwood in response to seeing a group of tourists dash through a town in France. It was intended to be a song about the “speed you live your life with.” Yorke later added lyrics that he’d written on holiday in Prague.

The song, and thus the album, ends with a triangle prominently chiming.

These lines could an allusion to the song Exit Music (For A Film) on the same album, but also symbolic of how external factors are the basis of our emotional stability in this day in age.

The typical subject cries at a good film and has a good memory in that they let the past, and external factors change their emotional make-up.

This is most evidenced in the line No longer empty and frantic, which comes after talking about how she kisses, and is symbolic of how for many people in today’s society, they are reliant on others to define their emotions, and are glowingly insecure about themselves.

These are classic examples of food that many people eat simply because they are cheap and easy to get access to. However, they are generally unhealthy and do harm to you in the long run. Eliminating these would lead to a healthier lifestyle.

Track five on The Bends, “Bones” can be understood as the typical negative reaction towards aging. Lines such as “I don’t want to be crippled and cracked” and the repetitive chorus line describe so. The key lines are probably the 2nd verse’s mention of painkillers (which the elderly is known to use for their aching pains), and especially the “Peter Pan” metaphor in the 2nd chorus.

As architect Frank Lloyd Wright said, “Love is the virtue of the heart.”

In saying that “love is a virtue”, Berninger is implying that it should be unconditional, and no matter how many times he screws up, Joe should still love him.

An alternative interpretation to the one above would be that this is sardonic: we say love is a virtue, but when love gets involved, people get hurt, almost every time. What’s so virtuous about that?

On the Song Exploder podcast, lead singer and co-writer Matt Berninger explains:

[‘Sea of Love’ is] a romantic song about a man who’s bitten into the apple a little bit. It’s a big murky mess of all the feelings that happen between human beings when romance and hopes, and all those kinds of things, they run away with our hearts a little bit. […] And then the song just started to become this loose idea of how people often will fall in love and jump into a situation. The ‘Joe’ is definitely the one who is jumping in with both feet. There’s a room full of people who are all sliding into the sea of love.

The song’s music video, directed by Sophia Peer, is an homage to the video for “Grubiy Zakat” from Russian indie rock band Zvuki Mu.

Weezer, known better to fans as The Blue Album, is Weezer’s first and most successful studio album. It was released on May 10, 1994. Three strong singles (“Undone – The Sweater Song,” “Say It Ain’t So,” and “Buddy Holly”) pushed both the album and the band to the front of the post-Kurt Cobain alternative scene, and then even further into mainstream success. The album was produced by The Cars lead singer Ric Ocasek, after Weezer was pressured by Geffen Records to avoid a self-produced album. On the choice, frontman Rivers Cuomo notes, “I’d always admired The Cars and Ric Ocasek’s songwriting and production skills.”

Half of the songs from The Blue Album were originally recorded for The Kitchen Tapes, a compilation of demos created in order to generate interest in the band. Originally, Blue was to feature Jason Cropper on guitar, as on The Kitchen Tapes. However, after a falling out with the rest of the band and an expected baby on the way, Cropper abandoned the project. Cuomo rerecorded the guitar parts for the entire album in just one day.

The album was met with fairly strong praise, receiving an “A” from Spin, five and four stars from AllMusic and Rolling Stone respectively, and a strong 10/10 from Pitchfork. The album is ranked 297 of Rolling Stones “500 Greatest Albums of All Time,” and 35 on their “100 Best Debut Albums of All Time.” The Blue Album was certified gold in just seven months, and in nine months it had reached platinum status.

Or as The Ramones so eloquently put it: "Beat on the brat with a baseball bat."

A few years ago, Ezra Koenig told Pitchfork that he and his sister really liked "Hit Me With Your Rhythm Stick" by Ian Dury and the Blockheads as children.

The “Hit me with a wood bat” line might also be a reference to Opio’s “Pull a wood bat, would that change your disposition?” line in the Souls of Mischief song ‘Step to My Girl’, which they already sampled in ‘Step’.
