this gig happened on June 2nd and I was really hyped up for Kanye West (AKA Yeezus)’s new album “Yeezus” (released June 18th)

I guess this crazy Rang De beat reminded me of the energies of the Yeezus songs that were released/teased so far up to that point (Black Skinhead, New Slaves, I am a God)

when watching the video and transcribing.. I realised that I think my subconscious tried to incorporate a lot of those songs' elements to this freestyle

Jack Kerouac, Allen Ginsberg, all that!

a line from wikipedia I like: “The members of the Beat Generation developed a reputation as new bohemian hedonists, who celebrated non-conformity and spontaneous creativity”

it’s also a cool lil fact for me that the name of this gig’s event was “Just a Lil Beat” cause it was a “beat-oriented music” gig. nothing to do with the beat generation
..so I didn’t plan this line beforehand.. but it turns into such an interesting language parallel/connection haha

my friend ADT (Alden D Tamborello) is the dude who shot these videos. He suddenly moved from his camera to a location closer to me to watch the performance and I shouted him out by reflex haha

worth noting that he’s big into Dylan and all.. so it’s quite fitting for his name to appear on this rap

[fun fact: he’s not into swag and most hip-hop tho lel]

Perhaps 1967 seems like an obvious choice for the effect I was going for, since it’s synonymous with cultural changes/happenings such as “The summer of love”..

but actually, the real reason for my obsession with this particular year and the reason why it was ultimately stuck on my mind for this freestyle was the realisation that these crazy albums came out in that same hell of a year:

#The Velvet Underground & Nico
#Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band
#The Doors
#The Piper At The Gates of Dawn
#Safe As Milk
#The Parable of Arable Land

and MORE.. seriously, check it, psychedelic enthusiasts who are not aware of what came out in that year will be mind-blown for sure

went all the way in by claiming the audience are witnessing something completely #RARE.. I imagine those kind of instances happen much more often in those days
