The Weeknd brags about his sexual prowess now.

It’s no wonder he wants a “pussy with superpowers” (mentioned towards the end of the first verse), as he claims his goods are literally made out of magic, and his tongue also has mad superpowers. The line may also be closely heard as “my tongue got two-for powers” which would further explain the two-for-one experience Abel prepares to give his lady.

Abel, you crazy.

Aforementioned skills demonstrated here:

These lines exhibit the seductive comparison of being lured toward smoking and into having sex.

Jhene explains how getting with her (or “blowing” her) is the best option, although it sounds like a guilty or dirty pleasure. She further goes on by challenging the listener to “light” her up by setting her “soul on fire” (either in the case of weed as you would lit it up before you blow it, or in the case of sex, where you would have such great sex that things would be steamy and pleasureful). She ends with a call to action: succumb to her plea, and she’ll get you real high, or “satisfied.”

#Pretty tempting!

At the beginning of this song, Banks' guy called her out as being an “instigator” of problems as well as being “unstable”. It happened to turn out this guy is actually the issue, but instead of owning up to it, he pins the blame on his past. He lacks the competency to take responsibility for his mistakes, which aggravates Jillian. He tries to play the guilt trip, but she sees all through it.

Common Paradox!

There are many guys out there who try to bash women for wearing make up. However, some of those guys are the same ones who can’t take a woman who doesn’t look a certain way or isn’t beautiful enough, which goes back to why women wear make-up in the first place (to look better for their friends, guys, and/or themselves). It can be a confidence booster.

Not that Jillian needs any make-up, anyway

The phrase “You cannot fight fire with fire” is a proverb-esque saying that can be seen as the equivalent to another popular (albeit cliche) saying:

Two wrongs don’t make a right.

Playing hot potato with vice is pretty cold, and as Jhene goes on to note in the next line, taking this approach doesn’t result in wins for anyone. Everyone suffers from the lust for victory.

At the end of the first verse, Jhene checks in the mirror to confirm that her “normal” self (strong, positive side) is still available in fending off her “hidden” self (dark, negative thoughts) later so she won’t break down. When this hook repeats following the second verse, the reflection in the mirror calms Jhene, telling her everything will be ok.

Nighttime is when people usually think the most about everything that’s going through their minds and going on in life; for Jhene, thats when darker thoughts cloud her mind. The “night” symbolizes that “hidden” side, and when the night comes, Jhene isn’t her normal self anymore. In losing touch with her normal self, Jhene becomes lost completely in this other state.

Her consumption in darkness and confusion is strange as she is usually seen as calm and in a peaceful place.

In addition to physical items, Jhene goes a step further to note how our “knowledge” is in fact tangible as well. In the words of Einstein:

No amount of experimentation can ever prove me right; a single experiment can prove me wrong.

In general life, knowledge is never truly certain and anything could change at any moment. In death, knowledge goes away both in the sense:

  • your brain stops functioning and, thus, you lose your information base, and

  • the world that you were perceiving and learning is taken from you as well.

As in the first verse, she can’t believe what she’s hearing, it’s completely out-of-the-blue, so she’s asking the guy to repeat himself.

The re-visitation of the first verse comes in the repetition of the first two lines, followed by different uses of “come again” and creating differing scenarios (this time, she questions the guy’s commitment to friendship and desire for power).
