The second time during the day the girl speaks to CG; the first time she woke him out of his sleep, and this time she interrupts him doing his passion: music/production. However, Donald doesn’t seemed to get very annoyed, just more confused and curious.

The “brother” the girl’s referring to is Donald’s younger brother and fellow rapper, Stephen Glover (or Steve G. Lover). The two brothers did a track together on Gambino’s most recent mixtape, Royalty, titled One Up.

Debt collectors don’t want to waste anytime on the phone if it isn’t business. If the person they want isn’t available, then they want to find out when they will be and how to contact them quickly, because to them, time is money.

Many debt collectors phone a person just like this, asking for the identity of the person they’re speaking to before giving out their identity. They take this approach in order to determine if they can jump right into their business, or to then find out when the person will be available.

Gambino seems to either be used to this, or has phone manners (or both) as he recognizes how rude this woman is being already, as the person calling should say who they are first. This begins the troll Gambino sets up for the remainder of the conversation.

Abella Anderson, who plays a chick that randomly pops up throughout Donald’s day:

  • In the film, this unknown girl could represent the girl Gambino wishes he had in his life that is there to support him and keep him alert as to what’s going on, among other things (as is displayed throughout the film).

  • Alternatively, she could just be a girl Gambino messed with that lingers in his mind throughout the day, yet doesn’t remember (explaining why he consistently asks who she is, who brought her here, etc.)

  • It could also be a symbol of what CG wants in a woman. As beautiful as Abella is, Childish nonchalantly just goes about his business without investigating/getting to know her, showing that looks may not be the only thing Gambino wants in a woman.

  • Abella could also have represented the kind of girls you can pick up through fame. The groupies per say. They may be hot and stuff but they just seem to be there, he doesn’t really know who they are but exist solely because he is famous. The fact that she’s a pornstar may suggest they are down to do anything.

  • She could also be his muse. she pops up at inopportune moments. she is his reason for waking up, and she draws him to different places and different things, sometimes he can’t explain why.

In the film, Gambino hangs up after he says this so he doesn’t have to hear the confused reaction of the collector lady, allowing him to move on to the rest of his day, (and the next scene).

(The film was apparently shot at Chris Bosh’s $9.4 million mansion in Pacific Palisades, California, explaining why he gets a “Special Thanks” credit at the end of the film.)

So, technically, Childish is located in the Northern Hemisphere, so at least he was honest.

In Relation to BTI Screenplay: In the script on becausetheinter.net Gambinos character, THE BOY, has a father who owns the house he lives at and dies in Sweden, (which is somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere). Clapping For The Wrong Reasons time frame could either be before the script, (meaning that his father is in Sweden for some reason), or somewhere after or in the middle, (meaning that after THE BOY travels to Sweden to retrieve his dead fathers ashes, he scatters them over a bridge, meaning that his fathers remains are literally “somewhere in the Northern Hemisphere).

Donald knows that the collectors are calling for him to pay off some debt, yet he bypasses the woman’s question saying the person she wants isn’t available.

This line has multiple meanings. It could be referring to the rich athlete Donald rented the house from in real life, or The Boy’s rich father who’s never present.

The girl and Abel are both lifeless which allows them to relate to each other so well – Abel isn’t dumb, he just want his benefits as well.

In addition, Abel continues the relative tone of the song by saying he, too, is “lifeless,” or an emotionless, “nonchalant” person. He doesn’t love the woman for a personality or possibly even looks more so than he loves the fact that she can actually relate to him, that they’re both “dead inside”.

On “Kiss Land,” the Weeknd discusses his newfound success and subsequent lifestyle. The song’s dark, moody atmosphere serves as the backdrop for the Abel’s conflicted emotions as he wrestles with his desire for pleasure and the consequences of his actions.

The song was released on May 17, 2013, and an official music video was uploaded to the Weeknd’s official YouTube account on June 26, 2013. In keeping with the song’s highly-sexual themes, the video features Abel alongside several pornstars, who feature more prominently in the extended version of the video.

Serving as the lead single to the Weeknd’s debut studio album of the same name, this is the Weeknd’s first release since the compilation project Trilogy, released in November 2012.
