Even though Lenny can’t be sure when or if his love will ever get over her broken heart, he will still wait for her recovery and for her to notice his love and care for her.

To see the woman you love in pain and sorrow can take an emotional toll on the lover as well, and that’s what Lenny is dealing with. He informs the woman he empathizes with her emotionally as he’s seen from an objective standpoint how much pain she’s in, and “offers” help to make her feel better (which would in turn release her from the darkness that’s preventing her from seeing “the light”, or seeing Lenny’s love/care.)

After losing her soul mate, the girl is in a lot of pain. When you lose a part of your “soul”, then a “hole” in your heart or where your soul once was would form, and leave a gaping void of nothingness, which is what this woman seems to have garnered.

The woman’s relationship didn’t just “end”, it was destroyed essentially. Apparently, she still loved her man, as he’s the one that did the emotional damage and took a part of the girl with him when he left (as if to say this man was this girl’s “soul mate”).

As later implied, the piece of the girl’s soul that was taken has been placed with a void.

This verse to begin the song displays words he’s given to a woman who just lost a relationship to a guy who didn’t care much for her. This negative tone towards the guy is projected through the first few lyrics, especially how he “took” the girl’s “soul”. He goes on to say he understands the girl needs some time to get over her broken heart and heal, but after that, she’ll find the guy for her standing in front of her. Waiting.

He could be “apologizing” for several things at this point.

  • For one, he could be apologizing to himself or some higher figure for becoming a mess and for all of the sins he’s recently committed (such as the heavy indulgence in lust/sex).

  • He could be apologizing to the girl’s (possible) new guy for the disrespect dished to him throughout this song (“Fuck that nigga…”).

  • He could be repenting to this girl for messing up and dialing her up with all these issues…

It could also be any combination of all three.

This closure is how Drake ultimately reacts to the “shame” he mentions he has earlier in the verse. Whether this is sincere or not…up for some debate (considering he is severely drunk at this point).

Derived from the outro of “XO/The Host”, these lyrics summarize the meaning of “the Initiation.”

Abel is indoctrinating a girl into his lifestyle, which is a constant juggling of sex and drugs. She loves him, but ironically, he doesn’t really have a heart to provide her. What he does have, however, is a big crew, a crew that his girl must meet if she wants to be anything to Abel.

The implications of these lines embody the entire interpretation of the track:

  • His girl may have to meet and get approval from the entire XO group, which may include getting fucked by them all. Abel’s made it clear that he doesn’t mind sharing on several occasions. Nothing is a commitment for him.

  • The “boys” could also metaphorically refer to Abel’s assortment of drugs. This implies that the only real friends he has are drugs, and they’re the only entity that can get both him and his girl in the “right” state.
