A play on the word “jerk”

  • The first is him referring to his crew/gang, he jokingly calls them jerks. This could also be interpretted as his own movement – jerking would be moving very suddenly, as to get away from cops and other things of that nature.

  • “A five-speed” refers to a *five speed manual transmission. In these manual transmission cars, it takes a jerk of the hand to switch gears.

Guilty compares himself to a skillet for the way he cooks up (starts) beef with others.

He has so much beef with others, it’s as if it’s literally stacking up, like when you’re done cooking the meat.

When you’re someone as important as Guilty, you have to make sure you’re protecting yourself at all costs. You don’t know when you’ll have to deal with a snake.

This could also be a reference another lyric on the album.

Snakes send text threats to my cell
Fuck ‘em, I reply back L-O-L

Even though he’s not necessarily scared, he just wants to be protected.

Rap and Hip Hop is a very young genre compared to other musical art forms, it also does not utilize the same sets of talent that those other forms use. This causes quite many to people to not respect it as a true form of music. These presumably white cops are most likely older men, and see the entire genre as a joke, and assume it all to be “garbage”.

This shows how ignorant (and possibly racist) the cops in his town are towards the black youth, and their opinions.

Doesn’t that just piss you off.

Quite a clever play on words from Juicy J here.

First, Juicy employs the heavily used metaphor of being high as an airplane here.

Juicy then extends the metaphor with a reference to the movie, Final Destination. One of the most prolific scenes of the Final Destination movie, and the series in general, is the pivotal Air-Plane Scene at the beginning of the first movie.

In the movie, the final destination for the passengers was the previously mentioned crash, but since there is no destination for Juicy, he’s never getting off his high.

Kweli continues the Jamaica metaphor.

You can taste it on your tongue

meaning the blood you’re spilling from being shot, you will often taste blood after being severely injured.

Talib then compares the gunshots to that of Jamaican booze, which has a really strong taste. Except that the gunshots way feel a bit stronger, maybe.

got the block hotter

Refers to how at any moment, feuds can get heated, and gunfire will erupt at any moment.

To be quick-witted means to be sharp. In freestyles and spur-of-the-moment situations, kweli is as smart and as clever as he is when he’s relaxed.

Plus, shark’s teeth are pretty sharp.
