Rodney King was brutally beatin by four LAPD officers on March 2nd of 1991 which caused lots of rioting in the African American community.

He also came out during the riots and asked his fellow African Americans in Los Angeles to cease the violence, which angered many of the people who felt that the rioting was well justified. I’m not sure if this was written before or after Rodney King made that statement, but Daz could be juxtaposing his violent prerogative against King’s plea for peace.

Due to long standing issues between African Americans and whites in the United States, after the Rodney King verdict, tensions boiled over after the not guilty verdict was given to the three officers whom beat Rodney King. Many of the people whom live within black communities are aware of the injustices that take place by the police, but after one incident was finally caught on tape and made it to the court of law were justice could be served, the system failed the African American community. Although for many looking outside looking in, they could not understand the anger that had been building within the African American community. When the law would not give justice, African Americans along with other minority communities felt like they had to take the law into their own hands to have their voices heard. Although Rodney King made a plea for peace on the news, many African Americans did not care for peace when they could get no justice.
