Suspect witness don’t come outside, you might get your shit pushed back tonight

This was from Nas' Suspect from his second record, It Was Written.

They are persuading you to stay inside if you just witnessed a crime because in the hood, if you witness a crime, you’re getting killed.

Getting your wig pushed back is a clever way to say getting shot in the head. If a bullet hit you in the head and you were wearing a wig, it would fly right off. Hence the “wig pushed back”.

Around this time in the mid ‘90s, a lot of music videos were becoming more “cinematic” thanks to directors like Hype Williams and were helping hip-hop go more mainstream with their airplay on MTV. Pos could be alluding to the fact that good storytelling rappers didn’t need a music video to get the listener to visualize the lyrics.
