A shot fired at Ross' former mentor, Trick Daddy regarding the label situation of Iceberg.

The Dunk Ryders are rap group from Miami founded by Trick Daddy, Iceberg, and Fella. They have since grown to include numerous rappers.

Iceberg is signed to Trick Daddy, who refuses to put him on, or let him out of his contract. Ross has made it clear he wishes to sign Iceberg to MMG, however he is still under contract with Trick and can’t jump ship due to all the restrictions that Trick’s brother, Charles Young Jr aka Chuck, has set forth.

While Trick Daddy’s artist suffer, Ross' artists clearly don’t.

Port of Miami is the debut studio album by Miami rapper Rick Ross. The name of the album is a reference to Miami being a major arrival destination for cocaine shipments to America. The album was released August 8, 2006 on Slip-n-Slide Records, Def Jam Recordings and Poe Boy Entertainment. The album was engineered by Miami based songwriting and production team The Monsters & The Strangerz. The album debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, with 187,000 copies sold in the first week of sales. In 2010, Rhapsody called it one of the best “coke rap” albums of all time. The album’s first single, “Hustlin'” was a super smash hit.

Ross' infamous “date rape” lyric that has gotten the rapper in a bit of controversy. It has prompted a petition calling for him to apologize for the lyric, as well as Reebok being pressured to drop the Miami native from their endorsement deal.

After increasing backlash in response to the lyric, Ross attempted to clarify the lyrics, saying he was misinterpreted:

I want to make sure this is clear, that woman is the most precious gift known to man, you understand? It was a misunderstanding with a lyric, a misinterpretation where the term rape wasn’t used. I would never use the term rape. As far as my camp, hip hop don’t condone that. The streets don’t condone that. Nobody condones that. So I wanted to reach out to all the queens that’s on my timeline, all the sexy ladies, the beautiful ladies that have been reaching out to me with the misunderstanding. We don’t condone rape and I’m not with that.

Ross also made an additional statement to Funkmaster Flex.

On April 4, 2013 after a “Drop Rick Ross” petition from Reebok was started by UltraViolet, a woman’s rights group, Rick tweeted an apology reiterating the fact that he does not condone rape.

On April 11, Reebok dropped Ross from their endorsement deal. UltraViolet, the women’s rights group that propelled the DRR campaign reacted to the news as well.

The day after being dropped from Reebok, Ross once again issued another apology:

Before I am an artist, I am a father, a son, and a brother to some of the most cherished women in the world. So for me to suggest in any way that harm and violation be brought to a woman is one of my biggest mistakes and regrets. As an artist, one of the most liberating things is being able to paint pictures with my words. But with that comes a great responsibility. And most recently, my choice of words was not only offensive, it does not reflect my true heart. And for this, I apologize. To every woman that has felt the sting of abuse, I apologize. I recognize that as an artist I have a voice and with that, the power of influence. To the young men who listen to my music, please know that using a substance to rob a woman of her right to make a choice is not only a crime, it’s wrong and I do not encourage it. To my fans, I also apologize if I have disappointed you. I can only hope that this sparks a healthy dialogue and that I can contribute to it.
