KRIT is from Mississippi and this song is talking about the evils of the Jim Crow era and Slavery, things that thrived in Mississippi. Each verse depicts a different scenario involving a black person all ending with the “Praying Man” coming to deliver them from their oppressor. The Praying Man is perhaps the Grimm Reaper, and after each verse the protagonist is dead.

KRIT also uses the Jim Crow evils as a metaphor for the evils done by record labels.
