“Snow” is a reference to cocaine, and ether is solvent that is often used as a recreational drug. Both are usually consumed through the nose— cocaine is snorted and ether is inhaled.
There’s no evidence that Travis himself does cocaine; he prefers popping pills and drinking lean.

Duke is referring to rappers not being “about that life”, or not actually selling drugs and shooting guns like they claim too. He compares them to actors like Patrick Swayze, who starred in several notable movies from the 80’s and 90’s.

Gucci is one of the more influential rappers to break out of eastern Atlanta’s infamous Zone Six, inspiring other rappers to ride for their hometown. Gucci specifically hails from Custer Ave, which he has mentioned several times before. His mother’s address can still be found online.

A 2013 altercation with Chris Brown left Ocean’s index finger in such bad shape that he attended the 2013 Grammys with a bandaged left hand. On the album cover for Blonde, he has a bandage on his left hand as well.

After Frank’s altercation with Brown, JAY-Z allegedly pressured Frank to press charges against Brown. By telling Frank he “oughta act his net worth,” Jay suggested that such petty conflicts were beneath Frank and that he should settle the matter in court, the proper way.

Due to Frank’s new status, he can’t just go off on outburst. His life is now like chess, a very slow paced and calculated game, where he needs to keep his cool and plan out his next move and not be reckless.

Frank preaches the importance of self-acceptance. The video at this point shows a man lifting weights alone in a room, flexing for no-one but himself. In the midst of self-doubt and the pain of unrequited love, which was the focus of “Mine,” it’s important to feel safe and comfortable in your own skin, regardless of others opinions.

Body sculpting is obviously something he takes seriously.

Houston record label Rap-A-Lot Records is known for many of its artists, including as Scarface, Bun B, and Pimp C, who Frank mentions earlier in the song.

In Part II of “Nights,” Frank sings about staying at a friend’s place out in Houston after Hurricane Katrina.

Your apartment out in Houston’s where I waited
