Mortal Kombat is a popular multi-media series. Around this time Mortal Kombat 4 came out for playstation and the god of all consoles, the N64.

Now playing it in the backyard, this may mean they were imagining and role paying. At 11 perhaps they were too old for this though.

Either way : they probably started by shouting
mortal kombat!

David Berkowitz (aka Son of Sam, the .44 Caliber Killer) was a serial killer active in New York from 1976 to 1977. He killed six people, wanted to kill many more and was involved in numerous other crimes, such as arson.

He also believed that the neighbors dog told him to commit the murders,

During questioning, Berkowitz claimed that his neighbor’s dog was one of the reasons that he killed, stating that the dog demanded the blood of pretty young girls. He said that the “Sam” mentioned in the first letter was his former neighbor, Sam Carr. Berkowitz claimed that Carr’s black Labrador retriever, Harvey, was possessed by an ancient demon and that it issued irresistible commands that Berkowitz must kill people. Berkowitz said he once tried to kill the dog but was unsuccessful due to supernatural interference.

Berkowitz later recanted his testimony saying that he never had any messages from the dog, that it was all an act for an insanity plea.

His mother told him that there is an entity ‘looking over’ him – but this seemingly innocent and sentimental notion has metamorphosed into a double entendre; since the person looking over him is now, in fact, the paparazzi following him and ‘looking over’ him trying to get a photo.

Dappy then goes onto to advice the audience that they should be careful what they wish for because the truth is a little different – by saying this, Dappy is referring to newspapers since they do not always speak the truth: he says that if the Guardian newspaper is his angel, then why is the Sun newspaper burning holes in him; meaning that if the Gaurdian newspaper is praising him, then why, at the same time, is the Sun newspaper perhaps criticising him?

The ‘woop-woop’ has become one of the most famous contributions of hip-hop to mainstream culture. Every where police drive, this sound will follow them. Great onomatopoeia by KRS-One.

After the last refrain of this phrase, there is a sample coming up on the background, Sly & the Family Stone’s Sing a Simple Song.

…“that’s the sound of da beast”

Additionally, “that’s the sound of da police” is actually the biggest misheard lyric for French speaking people. The way KRS-One spits it exactly sounds like “assassin de la police” (murderer of the police).
A lot of DJ use this sample in various tracks, most notorious is DJ Cut Killer’s :
