This 30 second, mid range tracking shot shot that tracks Alex up the beach is used by Spielberg to show several things. Firstly that Brody has positioned himself at the back of the beach, showing his fear of water. Secondly, we see how many people are between Brody and the potential shark attack.

Spielberg is showing us how powerless Brody is to protect the people on the beach. This creates nerves in the audience becuase of Brdoy’s impotence as well as his positioning. Spielberg shows any upand coming directors that tension can be created before any actors are involved, just through careful positioing and good choice of shots.

In the far reaches of space, an American pilot named Peter Quill finds himself the object of a manhunt after stealing an orb coveted by the villainous Ronan

The orb could well be from the infinty gauntlet owned by the cosmos destroying Thanos. The gauntlet made a cameo appearance in Thor and the blue orb in this photo seems similar to the one in the centre. Thanos has been confirmed as the villain for Avengers 3 so Marvel needs to begin sowing some backstory to make him the best villain possible.

This shot shows us the dynamic duo of Groot and Rocket in action.

Rocket (as his name would suggest) is adept with all forms of high tech weaponry, generally favouring something that is as nearly as large as he is. He is a racoon (but genetically modified for combat) , who has worked for years as a ‘Guardian of the Keystone Quadrant.’ After joining the Guardians, he became known for his fast trigger finger and even faster mouth. He will be voiced by Bradley Cooper.

Groot is well, a super powered tree. He can only say ‘I am Groot’ but the inflections and tone can change the meaning. He has super strength, can change size drastically and provides rocket with some much needed height and muscle! He will be played by Vin Diesel.

In this scene, the characters are in jail (for what we don’t know) and seem to be fighting against a riot. How they got guns…we cannot say until the movie comes out!

‘Regular Spiderman’ is the classic Stan Lee and Steve Ditko team up from the 60’s. It was (and is) amazing, but in the late 90’s Marvel felt the long backstory and canon was holding back writers and blocking new people entering comics (and therefore costing them money.)

To this end, the Marvel team decided to make an Ultimate (see why this could be a problem?) line of comics, that reset the clock on the Marvel Universe. The results were patchy, often retelling the same old story or just being not as good as the other title but the Avengers line took off and directly led to the movies being released currently.

This one of Tarantino’s most famous moments, which was number three on Ford on Films list of greatest horror scenes. The camera pans away at the exact moment that Mr Blonde cuts through the officer’s ear. This is a classic example of things being more terrifying or graphic off screen. This is a trope used regularly by directors especially in the field of horror, as nothing is scarier than your imagination.

The Film Journal did a pretty fantastic analysis of the scene that you should check out.

What you’re being forced to watch-in many ways, you in the audience are strapped to your seat in the same way that this poor cop is

Well observed! The character played by John Travolta is Vincent Vega. In Reservior Dogs there is a character called Vic Vega, played by Michael Masden. You dont remember? Maybe this will jog your grey matter!

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IPFJupeaCuA

The ‘Vega boys’ are brothers and Tarantino intended to do a movie about them, but they got too old as it would need to be a prequel. It is a shame, as it would have probably been awesome!
