This is a reference to the lyrics of Sade’s ‘“is it a crime?’”, which is the song sampled in this track. in the chorus of the song, Sade makes similar references to wonders of the world as an analogy to illustrate the depth and ‘size’ of her love for her mate. doom echoes this lyrical pattern by beginning each verse with similar references showing that he has not only love for the sample but the actual source material.
The “Empire State” was also a nickname used for New York in the 19th century by George Washington. Not to mention New York City also is the largest city by population in the U.S. with more than 4 million more people than the 2nd largest Los Angeles. DOOM is also expressing his love for his brother, Subroc, who passed away in 1993 after a car crash.
