In this TED talk, John McWhorter expresses a similar view when relating texting to spoken language:

Just now, my browser has underlined the word “texting” as a misspelling, but in spoken language this slang has become normal in everyday language – showing how written language always seems to be a few steps behind speech and its slang.

The rap game is constantly paralleled with sports and “ballin” is a common term to describe success. Lupe specifically points this out with baseball, where the pitcher is one of several positions.

He also continues the “devil” theme, as the devil is commonly depicted with a pitchfork. Lupe could be playing on the homophone bawl – a sound that has a pitch

Unrequited love or a bad relationship can drive you to drink and smoke for some type of escape. Kacey shows she’s a fan of smoking in “Follow Your Arrow”:

When the straight and narrow gets a little too straight
Roll up a joint, or don’t

She also talks about these specific lines in her Spotify track-by-track:

I do love the bridge…I mean [love] can wreck you. It’s crazy that in the beginning, something that makes you feel so good just takes you to hell.

Love makes everyone do some stupid things at times. It comes and goes, mistakes are made and you wonder why you keep falling for it.

As Kacey said in her Spotify track-by-track interview:

The main point is that love can make you look like an idiot. I’ve been there, done that.
