I think Lupe might actually be referring to Pink Guy, as he once rapped while cooking ramen. Pink Guy is definitely catching wind if he caught the attention of Lupe.

I think Lupe actually respects kendrick as a top lyricist (and/or oddly enough (Mickey Factz), that’s why I said in my other post that ramen/rhymin' could be interchangeable in either instance… Lupe in the first response says “seems like ya’ll forgot who the fuck, did what the fuck” meaning he feels like he should be given credit for tracks like dumb it down in the attempt to raise the bar and inspire better lyricism from “good rappers” he’s also using ramen/rhyming interchangeably also expresses the range of responses… some where good some were terrible…

In addition, in reference to the “Deadliest Catch” the show is recording the experiences of the fishermen doing one of the most dangerous jobs on the planet, Alaskan King crab fishing. According to Wikipedia, it suggests that on average, one fisherman dies weekly during the seasons. The causes for death are drowning, hypothermia since they’re in Alaska which are to be expected. But the real danger comes from them being on their ship and the equipment the fishermen use being turned against them from the unpredictable sea conditions. To make the parallel, Lupe said the sailboat (rapper) wouldn’t survive in the ocean of his tears(pool of songs about pain, suffering, change, w/ “cold” content and “deep” sometimes “unstable” lyricism, look up Beautiful Lasers and Hurt me Soul for reference.) His songs are so powerful, they could cause a rapper(sailboat/fishermen) to injure/kill themselves, or in this case their careers with their equipment/rhymes designed to show their lyrical prowess that pales in comparison to the power of Lupe’s destructive ocean of content. (Ex Soulja Boy & SLR) Just my thoughts.

Bring it back to the piers/peers can also be a “Robin Hood”-style reference, with Lupe taking back the attention of the rap community and returning it to true lyricism for those who have been hungry for it for so long. This can also be linked to the original SLR, which began with the Dante’s Inferno reference, O ye tormented souls.

I believe it goes a little deeper. He was talking about you can’t see what he is doing because it’s coming out the back of his dreads. he brings it to piers(peers) which called be a portal of view, like a window, or one’s eyes in which they see(sea) through. So he brings it in clear sight for others to see, he shows them the truth and depths of the “sea”, this is where you find these “big catches”, catching what he is saying (mouthfuls in one line)… There’s actually a lot of ways to interpret all this

When it comes to oceans, the docks are at the piers. “I bring it back to the peers(piers)” is associated to “dock a niggas pay” in that regard as well.

Rappers coming off flat is a metaphor for how off their skill level really is. This is why Columbus is mentioned in the line before.

They claimin they Columbus ( Christopher Columbus who believed, along with other scholars that the world was *round) Their raps come off flat cause they aint in Circumference. This line plays off the last.

While Rikers is on an Island, this is setup by the Columbus line, which the listener should visualize Columbus sailing on the ocean blue. Lupe is beginning is water imagery with all of the following lines referring to something to do with bodies of water!
