A lot of rappers are focused primarily on materialism over the music. By becoming so money focused they make the same sonic decisions.

“A Milli” is a well-known song by Lil Wayne, while “control” refers to this little-known, average, and boring verse by a rapper named Kendrick Lamar.

A word to rappers in opposition. Lupe plays other artists down, comparing them to Top Ramen who are talking about being on the highest levels of hip-hop.

Top Ramen has a reputation for being sustenance food for poor college students. Ramen is minimal pair with Rhymin, meaning there’s difference of only one sound between them.

In Kendrick Lamar’s ‘Money Trees’, he references Top Ramen.

In Strange Clouds both B.o.B. and Lil Wayne make a Top Ramen reference.

Many other rappers have also referenced Top Ramen, including Hopsin who has previously dissed Lupe.

These lines are extended puns. If you step to Lupe, he’ll either:

1) wash you away/wipe you out, or

2) dock your pay/wipe your funds out.

There’s a water metaphor here (wash/dock), and it continues into the next two lines. If you think you’re ready for his onslaught, you just received the “deadliest catch,” as in you have no idea what you’re in for.

Deadliest Catch is a TV series on Discovery Channel chronicling fishermen’s harrowing jobs out at sea and rough experiences.

“I bring it back to the piers” is also a play on words, since Lupe brings it back to the “peers”. By bringing it back to the “piers,” Lupe is landing the catch, in other words getting paid in full (which contrasts with getting your pay docked).

Other artists' rhymes try to be all that, but fall flat – a play on words; since they’re flat, they lack curve (circumference). Another spin on this line, he’s suggesting that these other rappers come off flat because they are not well rounded.

They are not in the circumference (of Lupe’s circle). They are not around Lupe. Lu is saying that other rappers aren’t in his inner circle of rap peers, hence they pose no challenge.

When a tire loses pressure, it has to come off because it is no longer inflated and fully round.

Coming off flat could also mean hitting the wrong tone (typically when public speaking or singing) due to incorrect posture “curve” and breathing.

Rikers Island is a prison in New York, referenced many times in hip-hop.

Once prisoners are on probation, they leave the island and go back to their homes but still under supervision.

When it comes to bars other rappers are like someone who is about to leave prison or on probation while Lupe is in this thing for life.

Even though Lupe thought MCHG was garbage, he still got love for Hov.

Jay-Z aided the beginnings of Lupe’s career, helping him acquire a record deal with Atlantic Records and later doing some production on his debut album. This could also be refuting Kendrick’s claim to “The King of NY” title, saying that Jay is one of the few rappers with a legitimate claim to that title

A reference to Jay’s Oceans. Large cruise ships can hold thousands of people, imagine all those people throwing up at once. Lu is saying that he’s sicker than sea sickness times a few thousand.
Lu could also be referring to norovirus outbreaks that frequently hit cruise ships. These are common stomach viruses that spread quickly through the ships given everyone’s close quarters and contact.

Following from the previous line, Lupe could be feeling sick because he hates having to admit that he wasn’t down with Jay’s album.
