A reference to the psychological thriller/horror film Black Swan. The main character (Nina, played by Natalie Portman) is a professional ballerina, who strives for perfection. Matching the same juxtaposition as the title (a swan is normally white) – Kendrick’s mainstream success makes him the exception. He’s the “black” swan that sits on top of the charts and trends.

“good kid, m.A.A.d city” is to be released on October 22nd, 2012. Kendrick asks if you will support him when his album is released, or let his music, and Hip-Hop as a genre, fail.
Luckily, the dream lives! “good kid, m.A.A.d. city” has been certified Platinum for selling over one million copies in the US, put his team on the map, and has become the most critically acclaimed hip hop artist of his generation. Quite an impressive feat.
Kendrick later did a similar thing at the end of “The Heart Part 4”, closing with:
