Lies that will divide
Us both in time
Blue Moon by Beck

Lies eventually lead to break-ups, as they start building a house of cards that will only one day collapse.

When that moon stole your shadows Blue Moon by Beck

The titular moon. The moon is being used here as the Light of Truth — in other words, the moon is not allowing whoever cheated or lied to Beck to hide in their own shadows (lies), but is showing them nakedly in full.

See the turncoat on his knees Blue Moon by Beck

The vagabond that no one sees Blue Moon by Beck

Beck has compared himself to a vagabond before:

Echoes of Mississippi here too: “feelin' like a stranger that nobody sees.”

Oh, don't leave me on my own
Left me standing all alone
Blue Moon by Beck

The pain of abandonment can be very strong indeed. But it can also lead to beautiful art.

The songbird calling
Across the water
Outside my silent asylum
Blue Moon by Beck

Birds are a symbol of freedom. Beck gives an evocative image of his loneliness in a bird singing and free while he is stuck silent and trapped.

I'm so tired of being alone
These penitent walls are all I've known
Blue Moon by Beck

Beck compares his loneliness to being trapped in a prison, or a penitentiary.

One should note though, penitent does not mean penitentiary like, but “regretful” or “feeling sorrow over a past mistake”

The walls are the only ones that know him. A common marking on a prison wall is the hash marks of days passed.

Al Green was also tired of being alone: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tdw7kxD8eUc

Aren’t the walls that are penitent? Penitent: feeling or showing sorrow and regret for having done wrong; repentant. The walls are regretful that they have trapped Beck inside them?

If they all got the mark we miss em Pew Pew Pew by Run the Jewels (Ft. El-P & Killer Mike)

That is, if you have the mark of the devil (or some other mark denoting sin, like Hester Prynne in The Scarlet Letter), you’re safe from El and Mike’s bullets. They’re after the good guys, the saints, the goody two-shoes.

This is a play on shooting your mark, or the target you’re aiming at.
