That’s one of the lines that I’ve changed. “I’m not a nice guy, I’m just the good guy,” that comes back to understanding your place, your purpose, your intentions.

I grew to have this image where people kind of made it feel like I was restrained by my niceness, like for some reason I’m not human, or I don’t get mad. Like I was being held back by my nice intentions.

Or on the opposite, there are people that were trying to paint this picture that I was pretending to be nice, for some reason. And I don’t believe that I’ve ever tried to be nice. My dad, since I was a shorty, he used to always say, “You can’t be a nice guy. You gotta be a good guy.”

Sometimes niggas need they ass beat. Sometimes shit happens. But you have to understand what it means to be a good man. And that was just something that I learned from young. Like, that’s who I want to be is a good dude, a good man. It’s very easy to mistake those two.

My mom used to always say, and people in Chicago I think just say, “You read'? You read' to go?” It’s like you ready, you read' to go. Like I said, I was ready to be who I'ma be since I was born.

The idea is that like, once I get to heaven I know I’m gonna be running to my wife. If I was to make the same mistake that I made in this life while searching for her, looking at all these different faces trying to find the one, if I mess up, we’ll get married again. I'ma find her. I'ma find you wherever you are, ‘cause our spirits are supposed to be together forever. And if you get married to the wrong dude, me and the homies gonna beat his ass. That’s basically what it means.

I believe in everlasting love. I believe in everlasting life, so I believe if I’m getting married, it’s not ‘til death do us part, it’s eternal. And I believe that when I get to heaven, I will see my life, and I will see the people that I love. I believe if I play my cards right, if I do everything that I’m supposed to do as a man, as a man of God, I’ll get all the things and an everlasting life that I want, that I need.

I wrote the second verse after I wrote the third verse. The second verse was all gibberish. Perspective is a big thing for me in songs, like who I’m talking to, who I’m speaking as, and then the moments of the song when that perspective changes or who the audience is changes. I felt like it was too may changes. Originally it was me rapping to my girl and rapping to my ex and then rapping to my friends and then rapping to the audience. Now it’s very pretty much directly for the first two verses just to my exes.
