This Canadian guy named Axford was was once a bartender. After a phenomenal season with Milwaukee in 2011, he fell off a little bit. Actually, a lot. In 2012 and 2013, he had a 4.67 and 4.02 ERA in each year respectively.

I think he will bounce back however. With St. Louis on a World Series run, he found his old magic back and had a 1.74 with them.

Labor Day is celebrated as a public holiday in a few ways by countries all over the world, but in the United States it falls on the first Monday of September. Its main purpose, beyond honoring the American Labour Movement, is a day off from work (or labor.) Quincy has no time for Labor Day—he needs to put in work!

Also notable to mention that Q appeared in a song called Work:

Additionally, in saying “Fuck Labor Day,” Q might be suggesting that he rejects a typical 9 to 5 job and life, choosing instead to make his money his own way. He doesn’t need Labor Day because he’s his own boss. The line could also be relevant year after year, meaning that ScHoolboy Q puts in non-stop work regardless of Labor Day (and other public holidays too) which most people have off. Q moves in a different world and at different speeds to most of the rest.

The irony goes back and forth: Labor Day honors the history of work and working by giving everybody the day off—and what people, on their day off, would want to reflect long and hard on the history of labor? For most of America, the usual thing to say would be ‘Fuck work, I’m not going’, but for Q, it is the absence of obligation from a boss to work that pressures him, and that spurs him on even harder.

“Just bought a gun” represents a progression from one of the album’s first lines (“My grandma showed me my first strap”): from curious child to straight-up gangsta.

The greatest achievement for any player.

Kiner got in in 1975. It took him a while, as it was his 13th year on the ballot. However, in our eyes, a HOFer is a HOFer.

It has been said Kiner has attended every Hall of Fame ceremony since his induction, barring 2012. Talk about being loyal to the game he loves and the game that loves him.

Kiner slugged over .600 3 times in his short ten year career. All three of those times he led the league.

Kiner has the 17th highest career slugging percentage by a right handed hitter ever. Kiner is 27th for all time for all payers.

The Pirates have retired 9 numbers, excluding Jackie Robinson. They retired his number 4 in 1987, thus letting no Pirate to ever wear his number again.

Home runs weren’t his only skill. Kiner was a skilled hitter who could take his walks.

  • Six seasons of 100+ walks (All were consecutive too!)

  • Led the league in walks three times (1949, 1951, 1952)

  • A career OBP of .398

  • More career walks (1011) than strike outs (749)

Kiner was truly legendary with his power. We could already tell just by that one fact. But the stats didn’t stop there.

A statistic that truly shows off his greatness. Kiner led the league in home runs seven times. Only Babe Ruth, the greatest power hitter ever, and Mike Schmidt have done that more.

While that is incredibly impressive, it gets even more jaw dropping—all seven years were consecutive!

Not even that, but they were all the first seven seasons of his career! Talk about being dominant from day one.

Sancez has been playing in Minor Leagues since 2010—and he’s still only 21. After a traded Jesus Montero, Sanchez is in hopes to be New York’s next in line to replace Jorge Posada.

The Dominican native is now on the 40-man roster, so perhaps Yankees fans will see him in 2014.
