The “Real Rolla” here is the late Robert “Real Rolla” Taylor, a Philly O.G. who is credited as “co-executive producer” on the first Beanie Sigel album, and, together with a guy named Saddiq, responsible for bringing Sigel to Roc-A-Fella’s attention through their Black Friday management company. This line insinuates that Rolla and Hov might have had a drug-dealing-based relationship before he got into the rap game.

Following up her 2012 money-themed anthem, “Pour It Up”, Rih pays homage to AMG’s 1991 hit, “Bitch Betta Have My Money” to prove that she’s still all about her money.

The line may be partly inspired from Drake’s “Worst Behavior”, where he says:

Bitch you better have my money when I come for that shit like ODB

This itself being a reference to Ol' Dirty Bastard’s song “Got Your Money”

In the official music video, the “bitch” refers to the accountant played by Mads Mikkelsen. Rihanna sued her former accountants in 2012 for mismanaging her money and eventually settled for a reported $10 million.

Roc Nation’s distribution deal with Sony Music expired in 2013 and they signed a new one with Universal Music shortly there after, which means that Sony’s Columbia Records no longer will be involved in J. Cole’s future releases under the ROC.

Cole obviously is grateful for Columbia’s work and doesn’t wanna burn any bridges.

Rockie is addressing the absurd infatuation with Jordan’s within the urban community. As fellow Chicago native Kanye West once said:

I don’t know what’s better, getting laid or getting paid
I just know I’m getting one the other’s getting away

If you can manage to stay away from arguable one of the two very best things in the world with the very common “money over bitches” mentality, how come you can’t stay away from buying shoes over paying bills? People are even dying over these shoes.

Rockie also delivers a shoes/choose homophone.

Negativity sells, therefore if you’re on the news it’s most likely for something bad, and if you’re trying to make money that’s not what you want because promoters and endorsers does not want to associate themselves with that. Just ask Rockie’s fellow Chicago native Lil Durk:

In my own city they hate on me, put weight on me
Fuck TMZ, fuck Breaking News and ABC
I can’t do no shows cause I terrify my city
They say I terrify my city
